Product Features

Iron ore, coal and dolomite or limestone as desulfurising agent are charged into the Direct reduced iron plant and heated up by a countercurrent gas flow and the partial combustion of volatiles and CO released from the charge. Reduction of the iron oxides in the solid state is achieved at temperatures between 920°C to 1050°C by means of CO, which is generated from the solid carbon by the Boudouard reaction converting the iron oxides into metallic iron.
Reduction and gasification reactions take place simultaneously within the charge
FexOy + CO --> FexOy-1 + CO2   CO2 + C --> 2 CO
and are supported by the controlled combustion of surplus CO with air blown into the kiln atmosphere along the kiln through individual air inlets.
A central burner is used for initial heating as well as additional process air supply. Coal is injected at controlled size fractions for optimum process control.
In certain cases, a limited quantity of iron ore fines can be injected from the discharge end.
The typical consumption figures per ton of DRI produced from lump ore are: Lump ore 1.46 t
